Who is Kerem and Asli? The Story of 2 Lovers.

The story of 2 lovers: Kerem and Asli

Kerem, whose real name is Ahmet Mirza, was the son of Islahan Shah and Aslı was the daughter of the Armenian monk who was the treasurer of the Shah, and they loved each other. So the Shah asked the monk for his daughter to be married to his son but the monk didn’t wish to give his daughter to a Muslim
But, he doesn’t reject the will of the ruler; so he asks for a respite and using this respite as an opportunity, he sneaks out of the country.

After this event, Kerem goes after Aslı, he starts to travel along with his loyal friend ‘Sofu’ all over Anatolia after the girl he loved. He becomes a lover poet. Everywhere he went, he sang sad folk songs and poetry of his longing for his beloved. On the other hand, Aslı tries to get information about Kerem’s whereabouts but she is not told.

Kerem continues with his sad and emotional songs and poems.. some times expressing this pain to the rivers, sometimes to the mountains.. sometimes to the rocks or the animals in the mountains.. at times snow storms and thunder storms becoming an obstacle in his path of love.. as Kerem follows Aslı from city to city.

All these struggles make him a kaamil(A wali/friend of Allah) person. He adopts sabr (endures patiently) to these troubles and he is rewarded for this. Burning from the fire of love, Kerem became kaamil.

Unkown to the monk, Kerem meets Aslı Han in some cities, like in the Erzincan vineyards and Kayseri…they tell each other of their love and they pour out their difficulties.

Finally, Kerem and Aslı came to Aleppo. Kerem wins over the love and respect of the Pasha, and the Pasha threatens the monk to give Kerem his daughters consent and the two lovers finally get married… But the wicked Monk gives them a final evil. He dresses his daughter in a bewitched wedding dress. The dress opens up to the last button and closes again.. meaning Kerem could not unbutton his loved one.

Kerem burns with fire coming from his heart and turns into ashes waiting for Kerem’s ashes not to break up, Asli’s hair catches on fire with a spark from Kerems ashes, their ashes meet. (A metaphor meaning Kerem longing made him burn till he became ashes (passed away) and Asli as well.)

Thanks for the details! So I guess the name “Aslıhan” in Diriliş Ertuğrul comes from Aslı?
